HEE launches clearing campaign to attract a new generation of podiatrists

On 23rd May 2018 Health Education England launches a new campaign to encourage more young people to consider a career in the Allied Health Professions. The campaign will include targeted marketing activity to promote podiatry as a great career option.

The campaigns main goal will be to increase course applications through Clearing 2018 and support recruitment in the run up to the UCAS applications deadline in January 2019.  Spearheaded by Health Education England (HEE), the campaign is running primarily across social media and digital platforms, using case studies and to inspire and inform sixth form and college students about what degrees in the allied health professions have to offer.

The campaign will put the spotlight on the benefits of these degrees and resulting careers, including:

  • a social purpose – the chance to make difference to people’s lives;
  • high graduate employment rates;
  • the opportunity to work anywhere in the country; and
  • career development opportunities such as teaching, research and team leadership

A team of student and newly-qualified allied health professionals from across England have been recruited as ambassadors to spread the word about their professions, talk about their experiences and provide first-hand advice to those thinking about doing an AHP degree.

Alex Townsend, podiatrist and campaign ambassador tells us “as a podiatrist I am incredibly passionate about what I do for a living and feel that we should all do our best to encourage more people into our line of work. Podiatry is such a diverse profession and a great career as there is so much variety in what treatments can be provided to patients. This is an exciting project to be working with and the future of the profession is exciting, I feel encouraging some young, enthusiastic people into the profession can only be a positive thing”

The campaign is centred on England as it is funded by HEE, however we are hoping that podiatrists will share Alex’s story on social media across the UK to help spread the word about podiatry as a great career option.
