Local MSP, Annabelle Ewing showed her support for local hard working NHS podiatrists last week when she visited Dalgety Bay Medical Centre to attend an event hosted there as part of Foot Health Month 2018.

Foot Health Month is The College of Podiatry month long awareness campaign to highlight the importance of foot health, taking care of our feet, and of course, visiting an HCPC registered podiatrist with any foot pain or problems.

In Fife, local podiatrist Debbie Cluness and her team have been supporting Foot Health Month 2018 by delivering no less than 14 public engagement events to promote the importance of good foot health.

Following her visit, Annabelle Ewing MSP, Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Cowdenbeath constituency commented:

“Good foot health is integral to living a longer, healthier and more active lifestyle. As we are all living longer, often with long term conditions such as diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis which can lead to foot problems, it is all the more important that people know how to look after their feet and when to seek support from a podiatrist.”

“It is great to see podiatrists engaging with the public on this important issue in the local community.”

During Annabelle’s visit, she took part in a ‘talking mats’ exercise which supports a person-centred conversation between a clinician and a patient by encouraging people to think about the issues which matter to them (for example, socialising with friends and family or taking part in sport) and encourages people to live a more active lifestyle.

Ross Barrow, Policy Officer for Scotland from the College of Podiatry said:

“This year’s campaign has been all about helping everyone be a little bit more informed about the importance of foot health, and where to go if they have foot pain or other leg problems. We are delighted that Debbie and her team have got so involved.”
