Directorate of Podiatric Surgery

The new Dean of the Directorate of Podiatric Surgery is Mr Haydn D. Kelly having been elected in August 2014. He is supported in this role by two Vice Dean's Mr Jason Nandlal and Mr. Ernest Barlow-Kearsley.

Anyone wishing to make contact with Mr. Kelly, Mr. Nandlal or Mr. Barlow-Kearsley can do so by way of the Postgraduate Education Officer, Mrs Kim Bryan.

NICE Clinical Knowledge Summary - Bunions

NICE have recently updated their clinical knowledge summary (CKS).  They recommend referral for podiatric or orthopaedic surgery when bunion pain can no longer be managed conservatively.  Read the full guide here

New Commissioning Guide

The College of Podiatry has contributed to a new commissioning guide for the treatment of painful deformed great toe in adults.  The document was sponsored by a number of organisations including the Royal College of Surgeons and the development process has been accredited by NICE.  The guide lays out care pathways and a quality dashboard.  Read the full document here

Role of the Directorate of Podiatric Surgery

The role of the Directorate of Podiatric Surgery is to promote, develop and govern Podiatric Surgery training and practice. To this end it will also work closely with the wider College of Podiatry and Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. New! Hallux Valgus and Commissioning Guidance 

In response to criticism of commissioning as inequitable along with various communication difficulties between commissioners and clinicians the Medical Director of the NHS, Sir Bruce Keogh, commissioned a project by Right Care and the East Midlands and London SHAs to engage professional bodies in developing value-based clinical commissioning guidance for elective surgical care pathways.
