Review of controlled drugs list

Review of controlled drugs list

The College of Podiatry is participating in a project, being led by NHS England, looking to make amendments to the list of controlled drugs podiatrist prescribers can prescribe. The College has consulted with podiatrist prescribers across the country and agreed to progress with a proposal to request two additions to the list, tramadol hydrochloride and morphine sulphate. This proposal will be subject to a public consultation later in 2018, the results of which will be considered by the Commission on Human Medicines and ministers advised appropriately. As part of this process the College continues to monitor with interest the status of certain medicines currently under review including gabapentin and pregabalin where there is potential that they may be reclassified as controlled drugs.
