NHS in Scotland pay update

The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP) - the leading professional body for podiatrists - today welcomed the proposed improvements to NHS pay and conditions for NHS staff in Scotland covered by the Agenda for Change (AfC) Agreement.

Chief Executive and General Secretary Steve Jamieson said:

”This is a good day for NHS Staff and for our members in Scotland, who play such an important role in healthcare.

Podiatrists play an essential role in preventing, detecting and treating an increasing number of patients with long term medical conditions such as diabetes and vascular disease, and an ageing population.

“Our members in Scotland have had to cope with years of pay restraint, and should be paid fairly for their commitment and expertise which results in life-improving podiatric interventions for patients every day. The SCP welcomes the decision by the Scottish Government to furnish our members in Scotland with a well-deserved 3% pay increase in time for inclusion in their July salaries.”

Employment Relations Officer for Scotland, Graham Pirie, commented:

“I welcome the Cabinet Secretary’s decision to get more money into the pockets of our members. Our focus however must be on completing the negotiations over a three-year deal for SCP members, and we hope to be in a position to consult with them about this over the summer period.”
